It’s time to break down another not often used word to determine what it really does mean.

It’s roots are three: Phil-is-tine

Since here it’s capitalized Phil is a nickname for that uncool first name Philip

is is a form of the present tense to be in the indicative mood

tine is the purposefully misspelled abbreviation for teenager

So here is the interpretative meaning that would win any wager:

Phil is a typical moody teen who has an intense dislike for art, culture, and anything spiritual

Who thinks it’s cool to be an uncouth anti-intellectual
